' I have actually discovered that books can carry children to another place.' Judith has been offering as a bedside reader at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust since 2003. After retiring from mentor, Judith desired to continue to use her storytelling skills to assist children who are poorly. 'I had actually always taken pleasure in reading to the children in school at the end of the day. You could see them noticeably relax and be taken in by the story. I believed this might likewise apply to kids in healthcare facility. I volunteer on the children's oncology wards in the hospital. I have seen the distraction reading a story can do to support the personnel. The children are little heroes. To witness their nerve is a benefit.' Thank you for your compassion and care Judith. This Volunteers Week, learn how you can offer to make an impact on clients' lives. Discover opportunities in your location. https://lnkd.in/eX3cGZFS

' I tried to switch off a bedside lamp and seemed like something wasn't right with me. I understood immediately it was a stroke.' In July 2023, after an active holiday kayaking and walking, Bob all of a sudden had a stroke. He was flown by air ambulance to University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, where he spent four weeks fixing up. 'I used the fitness center often and did neurorehabilitation online (NROL)'. NROL is a group rehabilitation programme for people who have had a stroke or have other neurological conditions. 'I had a structured schedule which gave me something to look forward to every week - socially, mentally and mentally.' Bob thanked NHS staff for 'the great assistance' and the continuous physiotherapy he got. Well done Bob and great work group! Early acknowledgment of stroke signs can conserve lives. If you see somebody with any signs or signs of a stroke, keep in mind to Act F.A.S.T. Face - has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile? Arms - can they raise both arms and keep them there? Speech - is it slurred? Time - it's time to call 999 Discover more: https://lnkd.in/ggFifjh #StrokeAwarenessMonth

' Working alongside nurses and seeing the difference they made inspired me to believe, 'I could do that!" Meet Sharon, a sexual health nurse and non-medical prescriber who began her nursing journey in 1985 at the Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital. In 2010 she signed up with Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and continues to serve clients in Hertfordshire. 'I loved helping people and discovering the body, so nursing simply felt right.' Sharon shows. Sharon has actually worked in male infertility, menopause, miscarriage and colposcopy to call a few, revealing the large range of areas in which nurses make a distinction. 'Truly, I can't think about a location where nurses do not make an effect in some type,' Sharon confesses. On why her role is special, Sharon explains, 'The care, kindness, and empathy we bring make the nursing function distinct. As patient advocates, we help ensure their journey is supported, informed, and genuinely meaningful.' There are more than 50 various types of nursing roles available in the NHS.
